Meeting between OSV members and IMO Maritime Ambassador for Malaysia.

SUBANG JAYA: Captain Nazri, with Dato' Captain Jailani Jalal (Director of Ports and Seafarers Welfare) met MOSVA members to discuss about the issues that has to be faced by Malaysian crew, and how to improve Seafarer Management Center's database. It is the IMO Maritime Ambassador for Malaysia's concern to discuss and trying to solve the issues of Malaysian crews. Some of the issues that discussed in the meeting are:

  • How to improve Malaysian seafarers' discipline and behavior.
  • Certain position on a ship are vacant, but there are no seafarers available, therefore in the future Marine Department of Malaysia will train existing seafarers to encourage them to be promoted to officers and masters.
  • Seafarers sea time on the sea are not counted if they work on barges, therefore if a seafarer work on barges, the sea time of the seafarer will be counted but halved in the future.

This has come to IMO Maritime Ambassador for Malaysia's concern, and will take action on the issues discussed.
